Flower Vendors at Pike Place Market

The flower vendors at Pike Place Market have a rich history, deeply intertwined with the stories of Hmong farmers. Many of these farmers arrived in the United States as refugees from Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand during the 1980s, following the Vietnam War.
To support their resettlement, the Indochinese Farm Project was established in 1982. This initiative provided land and resources to help Hmong farmers adapt to the new climate and grow crops. Over time, they transitioned to floriculture, mastering the art of flower farming. Today, Hmong-owned farms make up a significant portion of the flower vendors at Pike Place Market, with many families continuing the tradition across generations.
These vendors are not just selling flowers; they're sharing a legacy of resilience, adaptation, and artistry.
